DIGITAL MEDIA: DESIGN, ANIMATION, & VIDEO - 916

The emphasis of this course is on visual communication and design. A combination of traditional media and computer technology will be used so students can understand and appreciate the benefits of using a variety of tools and materials to express their ideas effectively. Design skills will be explored through typography, photo manipulation, screen-printing, posters, logos, packaging, animation, and video. Computer applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, iMovie, iTunes, and Flash will be introduced.

NOTE: Students who are interested in art related professions such as architecture, engineering, graphic design,  industrial design, animation, game design, advertising, photography, and illustration will find this course helpful in developing their portfolios for college admissions and scholarship opportunities.
NOTE: It is recommended that Art II be taken before Digital Media to improve design and drawing skills. Prior computer experience is not needed.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art I

Open to grades 10, 11, 12.

ADVANCED DIGITAL MEDIA: DESIGN, ANIMATION, & VIDEO - 917

The emphasis of this course is on visual communication through advanced design concepts.  Students will be exposed to a variety of digital media: PhotoShop, iPhoto, Illustrator, InDesign, iMovie, Flash, Garage Band, iTunes, and Dreamweaver. Students will gain the independence and confidence to use a combination of traditional materials along with the in-depth use of technology. Students will develop creative solutions to today’s design problems. Projects will include: photo manipulation, packaging design, advertising, two-color screen-printing, animation, video shorts, web page design, and independent studies. 

NOTE: Students who are interested in art related professions such as architecture, engineering, graphic design, industrial design, animation, game design, advertising, photography, and illustration will find this course helpful in developing their portfolios for college admissions and scholarship opportunities.


Prerequisite: Successful completion of Digital Media: Design, Animation, & Video.
