As we approach the 2021-2022 school year, we are making our intentions well known through the linked Opening Plan. This plan was developed after considerable dialogue, discussion, thinking and rethinking. We have also taken into consideration the feedback we have received not only over the last school year, but also the feedback received with the release of the DRAFT Opening Plan on July 1st. Further, we have collaborated with more than 40 other SAUs in NH encompassing over 50 school districts. And lastly, we participated in the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (NHDHHS) call for schools and child care centers held on July 21, 2021.
It is important to note that the Opening Plan is largely based on what is happening in our area now, as of July 31, 2021. As illustrated in the video released with the Draft Opening Plan, we continuously monitor, capture and analyze the data that is released by NHDHHS on a daily basis. We know from experience that this may change and when necessary, we will adapt accordingly with these objectives in mind:
- Focusing on the primary purpose our schools exist - Teaching and Learning.
- Maintaining flexibility in how we operate with safety as a top priority.
- Keeping it simple and user friendly to reduce confusion.
The feedback from the Draft Opening Plan identified two primary areas of common concern: face coverings and vaccinations. The NHDHHS noted in their call on July 21st that decisions on face coverings should be in consideration of local reality. As such, face coverings will continue to be optional, at this time, for those that wish to continue wearing them. The only exception to this guidance is when riding on a school bus, as they are required, in order to comply with a federal mandate while riding on buses.
Additionally, while states across the country with higher vaccination rates continue to have lower transmission rates of COVID-19, they are not required and are decisions for individuals to make on their own. To help clarify the vaccination requirements for schools, we included a link that outlines the school immunization requirements in New Hampshire, which does not include COVID-19.
The pages that follow in the above linked plan will provide all of our schools the ability to be Better Than Normal. If at any point, we need to update this plan, we will do so openly and communicate that with all of our school communities.

Meals: Southwestern Community Services (SCS) has been granted space at the Keene Middle School to offer a summer food program. They offer breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. For additional information regarding their summer food program contact SCS. Special Education: Extended School Year Programming (ESY) is wrapping up for SAU 29 School Districts. As ESY winds down, it’s important to acknowledge the important summer work done by our students, teachers, coordinators, paraprofessionals, tutors, psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, nurses, bus drivers, administrative assistants, custodians and administrators. We are proud of our teamwork and the difference that it makes to our students and their families in the summertime. Looking ahead, we will be measuring the learning outcomes as we begin our post pandemic journey together this fall.

Parents and Students, Chromebooks should be used for your school work only. Please do not eat while using your school issued Chromebook. We are experiencing high volumes of damaged Chromebooks due to spills. Please make sure you fill in the online registration for your students. It is important to have all the correct information in place.
