(WBL) Work Based Learning Experience

WHAT IS A WORK-BASED LEARNING (WBL) EXPERIENCE?

The Cheshire Career Center has a number of programs that offer Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences for students. These structured learning experiences, which include Informational Interviews, Worksite Tours, Job Shadows, Internships, and Cooperative placements, are designed to provide students with a chance to demonstrate and develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that they learned in a classroom setting in a real-world environment with local employers.

Students, who are in their junior or senior year and are enrolled in a two-year Cheshire Career Center program, can earn the right to participate in a WBL experience based on their overall performance.
Academically speaking, students who wish to apply for a WBL experience, must have successfully completed two credits in a Cheshire Career Center program.

Work-Based Learning is a vital component of the career planning and development process for our students. Through goal-oriented and performance focused WBL activities, students gain real world experience and develop a deeper understanding and awareness of their employability skills and behaviors.

Along with meeting academic expectations, students must also have consistently demonstrated effective and appropriate interpersonal communication skills and an aptitude for working collaboratively with classmates and instructors.

In order to participate in a WBL experience, students must receive a favorable recommendation from their instructor and school counselor.

Participating employers and industry partners build relationships which may be cultivated to support the Cheshire Career Center's program of studies, outline pathways to occupational opportunities, or develop a "talent pipeline" for future workforce needs.
